Support for All

ABC Education is proud to be an approved provider for alternative provision in over 12 counties across the UK.

We provide qualified teachers, experienced tutors, and learning support tutors for home learning, school learning, and community provision. 95% of the students we support have an EHCP. We support a range of SEND and SEMH needs including students who are looking for:

- Reintegration support

- EBSA support

- Home learning due to anxieties

- Project-based learning tailored to their interests.

We can take enquiries direct from schools, parents, or case workers.

Step 1: Assessment When we are sent a referral by a case worker/school, the Client Liaison team review all documents sent. These include the EHCP; appendices; and key documents from professionals e.g. Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists. The team analyse the SEND and/or SEMH needs of the student along with the approximate academic levels to begin to piece together the support level needed. At times, we clarify additional information such as from care homes, previous schools or social workers. If the team feel that we can support the student, we reply with our provision offer

Step 2: Student Profile The Client Liaison team conduct initial calls with the parents/carers to start to build a picture up of the student and their current strengths, areas for development, a timetable of their alternative provision and any special requirements. Our sessions generally operate at either a 9:00am start or 12:30pm start. The initial call notes and EHCP/documents are used to conduct a risk assessment. All students have a comprehensive risk assessment created that is bespoke to their needs and where the tuition will be held.

Step 3: Matching The team begins our bespoke matching process which involves looking at the student profile; their pathway e.g. re engagement into school; and targets on their EHCP. Our tutors/teachers are consulted to see who would be a perfect match for the student keeping in mind the tutor’s/teacher’s qualifications, experience, personality and interests. A timetable is created for the student sessions and all documents are prepared.

Step 4: Paperwork The team confirms via phone and email the timetable for the student, their Client Liaison contact details along with all policies and procedures. The parents/carers/key partners are loaded onto our reporting software so they can access all report.

Step 5: Building Relationships The first step in our sessions is for the tutor/teacher to begin to develop a mutual relationship based on trust and understanding. When a student feels listened to, trusted and respected they begin to be able to break down any barriers to learning. Our tutors/teachers use the interests of the student to hook their attention and ignite their curiosity. Depending on the student, this process can take a number of weeks but is crucial to ensure maximum progress. For students who may benefit from additional emotional and mental health support, we implement the Thrive approach. Thrive is a trauma-informed method designed to improve the mental health and well-being of CYP. Our in-house Thrive Practitioner conducts an initial assessment of each student to determine whether they would benefit from this approach. Once a student is identified as a candidate for Thrive, recommendations are made regarding their tuition, focusing on emotional and social development. Thrive assessments are conducted termly to plot each student's progress in areas such as emotional regulation, resilience, and self-esteem. This ongoing assessment ensures that we are meeting the holistic needs of our students, not just their academic targets.

Step 6: Project-based Learning As soon as the student is ready to begin the process of learning, the tutor/teacher creates a bespoke plan of learning using our unique ABC Way. Our method of learning is highly successful in engaging even the most reluctant learner. By incorporating their unique interests we spark the imagination and ignite their desire to learn.

Step 7: Ongoing Monitoring At the core of our monitoring process are sessional reports, completed by teacher/tutors after each lesson. These reports follow a structured framework built around the "5 Pillars of a Successful Lesson," which are: Punctuality Progress Made in the Session Participation in the Session Quality of Work Produced in the Session Progress Against EHCP Targets Each of these pillars is rated on a sliding scale from 1 to 5. This rating system enables us to quantitatively assess the success of each lesson, while also identifying any potential concerns early. We understand that for each child these scales can range dramatically; for a child with high anxiety of EBSA a 5 progress may be them turning up to the start of a session and engaging for a short period of time. The Client Liaison team knows each child’s individual circumstances and when reviewing reports daily, collate a picture of how to student is progressing academically and holistically. This allows us to implement targeted interventions when needed or alter the provision. At the end of the term, tutors/teachers also complete a Termly Report. These reports are often used in Annual Reviews and for consulting schools.

Step 8: Future pathways When first referred, our student’s desired end goal/s are discussed and set. The pathways for each child are unique and we provide support at all times on this journey. This may be to pass their Functional Skills, to re-engage in classroom based learning, or to transition to a specialist placement. For example: Student Y, who has extreme anxiety, has the target to begin to re-engage in learning in the classroom of their on-roll school. For this we would stagger our learning to first in the home, then moving to a neutral setting such as a library, then to a small room in the school, and finally in the classroom. At all times throughout, the student/family is supported by our team. Small successive steps are used to ensure minimum anxiety and allow them to feel they have achieved great things.
